Gears of War: E-Day PC Requirements, Launch Times and CPU Performance

Official Gears of War: E-Day PC requirements for 1080p, 1440p and 4K

Xbox’s current launch chart sets out three PC configurations for Gears of War: E-Day: Medium at 1080p, High at 1440p and Ultra at 4K. All three performance targets use upscaling. Below are the corrected requirements, UK launch times and independent CPU-testing context.

Updated: 20 October 2026. Official requirements and post-launch notes rechecked; the earlier correction history is retained below.

Correction — 24 September 2026: An earlier version of this article contained inaccurate hardware requirements. The complete table and dependent commentary below have been corrected against Microsoft’s final launch specification chart.

Correction — 1 October 2026, 19:40 BST: We updated the requirements table and dependent explanation to match Xbox’s current three-tier launch chart. This replaces the obsolete four-tier table, corrects the hardware and memory values, and removes the unsupported non-ray-tracing minimum and OS/API rows. The 24 September correction remains above as part of the article’s history.

Ray tracing, upscaling and what these targets mean

Xbox requires an SSD and a graphics card capable of hardware ray tracing. Its chart says cards without dedicated hardware ray-tracing support are unsupported; there is no separate non-ray-tracing minimum in this chart.

These are publisher targets with upscaling, not native-resolution or Pixalrig benchmark guarantees. Actual results depend on the scene, hardware, settings, background software and selected upscaling technology. The chart does not specify an operating-system version or API, so neither is presented here as a chart requirement.

Release date and original UK launch times

  • Premium Edition early access: Xbox announced 1 October 2026 at 15:00 UTC — 4pm BST in the UK — with up to five days’ early access.
  • Worldwide launch: 6 October 2026 at 15:00 UTC — 4pm BST.
  • Pre-install: Xbox announced a 29 September start at 15:00 UTC — 4pm BST.

The confirmed platforms are Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam. Xbox announced worldwide release for 6 October 2026, with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass access from that date. The Premium Edition early-access and pre-install dates above are historical launch information, not upcoming events. The Coalition’s 14 October post-launch patch notes confirm the game is now in its post-launch period.

Season 1: Emergence and launch omissions

The Coalition announced Season 1: Emergence from early access through 1 December 2026. Its 14 October patch notes confirm Ranked Versus launched on 13 October and report a correction to placement matches. Ranked is no longer an upcoming feature; it was absent from day one.

The Coalition confirms Private Lobbies, leaderboards, Meat Shields and Chainsaw Duels are absent at launch. It discusses revisiting legacy features after launch or in a future title, without guaranteeing their return to E-Day.

The developer’s launch notes reported mouse-and-keyboard delay and graphics-settings fixes, an FOV slider, HDR controls and optional PC multi-frame generation. The 14 October patch also reports stability and memory improvements on PC, Xbox and handhelds. These are developer-reported changes, not improvements measured by Pixalrig. The launch requirements remain publisher targets with upscaling, not estimates or guaranteed results; patch changes mean older benchmark findings need their original test context.

Independent CPU testing: Tom’s Hardware

Tom’s Hardware tested 25 AMD and Intel desktop processors, primarily at 1080p High with an RTX 5090 Founders Edition. It used an in-game scene after checking the built-in benchmark and tested some CPUs at 1440p. In its 1080p High test, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D was 42% faster than the Ryzen 5 7600X, showing substantial CPU scaling.

Low Core Mode: Tom’s measured a 12.1–31.7% performance reduction across its normal four-core-or-better desktop CPUs. An artificial two-core Core i3-14100 configuration behaved differently: enabling the mode resolved texture-streaming faults and menu freezes, and improved performance.

These are Tom’s Hardware’s scene- and configuration-specific measurements. Mobile processors and handhelds were not tested, and Pixalrig has not independently reproduced the results. The test used Windows 11 Pro with VBS disabled, ReBAR and XMP/EXPO enabled. That VBS setting describes its methodology; it is not a recommendation to disable Windows security.

Should you upgrade or enable Low Core Mode?

Check your hardware against Xbox’s chart, then assess performance on your own PC before spending money. One CPU comparison does not establish your bottleneck or promise an upgrade’s FPS gain. Treat Low Core Mode as a setting to compare under repeatable conditions, rather than a universal performance boost; the desktop findings do not establish how it behaves on handhelds.

If the game stutters, work through our PC stuttering guide. Use Upgrade Checker to investigate what may be limiting your current system, or Build My PC if you are planning a complete build. Follow the evidence before replacing hardware.
